My current leadership role is primarily focused on providing direction and guidance for the newly formed Allegheny Health Network's IT Service Center - a rebranded collection of related teams - service desk, desktop operations, clinical deskside services, and IT training. In this role I am accountable to integrate disparate service desks (the second of such work in my career), continuously improve service, and create a IT service environment that's accountable to enterprise customers. My colleagues would say I'm a bit of service management geek. I absolutely get a kick out of unscrambling what I call "standard-issue" service issues - the kind of stuff that so many organizations struggle with and sometimes take for granted. But no one-trick pony here My background in infrastructure operations indoctrinated me to rigorous problem solving and demanding efficiency requirements, so I've been there, in the trenches, having supported enterprises from the bottom up in spaces that demanded x service level commitments, common sense, and a delicate balance of risk and vigilance. I've spent much of my career in a healthcare setting, but service management, like so much of IT, is not so much about context as it is about having a core philosophy and correctly applying it - regardless of the industry. My early career in transportation engineering was very much oriented to process improvement and design detail, but focused instead in geographic information systems, Remote Sensing, and cartography. I have a passion for writing, and I am published in a variety of settings, including InformationWeek, Network Computing, and the Help Desk Institute - as a guest blogger. I'm often tapped to ghostwrite for executives and senior management. I earned my Bachelor's degree from Michigan State University, my Master's degree from Carnegie Mellon University's H. John Heinz School - now called the Heinz College, and I'm working towards the ITIL Expert Certification.
