I’m an improviser from Austin, Texas. Yes. That’s what I am. I’ve been a lot of things… a straight A student, an altar boy, a grad student, a programmer, a wannabe rock star, a wannabe concertina player, a novelty music show DJ, and an aspiring writer. But now, it’s safe to say, I’m an improviser. I can actually remember at one time bemoaning the fact that I didn’t have one overriding passion in my life. Well, now I do. I started taking improv classes over 4 years ago, and it very quickly became who I am. From student, to performer, to troupe member, to coach, to teacher… and now, to theater owner. Yes, As of April 2009, I’m one of the owners of The Hideout Theatre in downtown Austin. It’s going to be a wild, frustrating, exhilarating ride. It’s hard for me to explain why improv is so important to me. At the core, improv is just you, your fellow performers, and the stage. You’re creating worlds and people and situations in the moment. And the only way that really works is to surrender to the moment, to unfetter your mind and your tongue, and connect deeply and truly to what’s going on NOW. That’s what I love. Those shows that I can barely remember, where the story just tells itself, and I’m along for the ride… those magic shows that feel effortless. That’s what my life is. That’s who I am.
