Josh Separzadeh received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, San Diego with a Visual Arts emphasis in media and film. Separzadehs pieces represent his own discomfort with the superficial preoccupations of his generation, specifically his peers inability to challenge the state of contemporary human values in their work. It is exposing these inconsistencies that drives the artist and his unique brand of social commentary. In his work, Separzadeh attempts to reveal the multiple, at times conflicting, codes of morality that bear heavily on controversial issues. His interpretations touch on topics including drug abuse, the state of U.S. military operations, feminism, family values, and abortion. Separzadehs images read like self-contained exposs in which he attempts to iconify each subject at its most fundamental level. Aside from his personal work, Separzadeh has been involved in a number of commercial projects that range from contract photography to conceptual design and marketing. Throughout his undergraduate education Separzadeh worked as creative director and marketing consultant for Heavy Hitters MMA Apparel. Separzadeh has also worked with Shaolin Temple of Boom music productions as head photographer and conceptual artist. In addition, he has created promotional material for many Los Angeles based companies including Spin Addicts, Beautee and the Bullet, and Legends The TruthBlue Pitt Productions. Most recently, Separzadeh designed and photographed the Winter ad campaign for ENGL Amplifiers of Germany. Separzadeh has gained recognition and support for his work from both his academic and professional involvements. Two of his pieces were featured in the Spring edition of Temper Magazine, a UCSD student publication dedicated to showcasing exceptional work by undergraduates. Separzadeh has also created a number of commissioned pieces for private collectors and businesses. The success of these ventures drives the artist to experiment with other mediums of expression in order to extend the reach of his artistic voice.
