Ann Stone grew up in Midland MI, the company town of Dow Chemical, the kind of place that a lot of people took organic chemistry in high school. Unfortunately for Ann, chemistry didn’t make sense to her. But the business of doing business – now that made sense. So she eventually headed off to U of MI Business School to learn how to be a marketing person. Luckily for her, SC Johnson one of the premier brand management companies, thought she had learned enough to join them, and she had the opportunity to learn how to be a true Brand Manager, working on such brands like Raid®, Brite® it was so successful it is now branded Pledge®, the real Pledge®, Glade® and Agree® Shampoo. While SCJ was a great company the pace of marketing was glacial. Think about how many times you have purchased a cleaning supply like Pledge, and you get the idea. So a career transition was in order. Food looked good. Food got eaten every day – several times in fact. Ann’s first stop was Pizza Hut where the results of Friday night’s media buy could be analyzed Saturday morning. The move from purchase cycle’s once a decade to once a week was exhilarating. Her work combining the rigor of Brand Management with the pace of Fast Food (QSR) marketing got her the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier brands: Coca-Cola®. Working first in the Fountain Division and then on overall North American business challenges – well, it was the Doctorate marketing degree to match the MBA. Since then Ann has focused on the Restaurant industry exclusively, building a portfolio of experiences that ranges from Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Church's Chicken®, the Orange Julius® and DQ/Orange Julius Treat Centers Steward on a global basis, and the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Papa Murphy's® Pizza. With all of this experience under her belt, Ann is now pursuing her own version of giving back. She is now focusing on teaching, mentoring, coaching, and for all the readers out there, a blog called C is Just a Letter - a quirky look at insights from the C-Suite where she shares her insights from a career that spans marketing, personal leadership, leadership development, and branding. In a more formal way Ann is giving back through teaching, serving as a Sessional Lecturer at The Sauder School of Business at UBC as well as an Adjunct Professor at Western Washington University.  Additionally, she serves as the "outside marketing department" for some small businesses in Vancouver. fread more ...read less ...
