"Bruce Bigelow is a senior writer on the business staff at The San Diego Union-Tribune. Since Sept. 11, 2001, he has covered the San Diego companies that are most concerned with defense and homeland security. He also has reported extensively about technology, including computer-maker Gateway, San Diego's venture capital business and other topics. In 2000, his two-part profile of San Diego shareholder lawyer Bill Lerach, known as ""Wall Street's King of Pain,"" won Best Business story from the San Diego Press Club and Copley's ""Ring of Truth"" award. Bigelow also was a Gerald Loeb Award finalist and a National Headliner Award winner for 'The Toymaker,' a 14-part series published in 1997 that chronicled the development of a start-up company. Bigelow graduated from U.C. Berkeley in 1977 with an English degree. He also has a master's in journalism from Columbia University.
