I have been involved in research and development of protocols and system architectures in the area of multimedia communications, including voice, video, and data conferencing over IP networks, since 1996. In addition to architecture and software development activities within Cisco Systems' Voice Technology Group, I have actively participated in a number of standards and industry organizations, including the ITU, TIA, IETF, ETSI, and the IMTC. Most notably, I served as editor of ITU-T Recommendation H.323 and currently serve as Rapporteur for ITU-T Q.2/16 and Q.12/16. I spent a number of years working on H.323-related work, helping to grow H.323 into one of the world's most widely deployed VoIP protocols. That work included work at Cisco and in public groups like the H.323 Forum. I was also been heavily involved standards work in the ITU-T, TIA, and the IETF to resolve issues with transporting textphone ("TTY") signals over IP networks ("Text over IP" or ToIP) for the benefit of the deaf. More recently, I have engaged in the creation of a new multimedia communication system in the ITU called the Advanced Multimedia System (AMS or H.325), which will significantly advance the state current technology by enabling a host of applications across one or more physical devices. In addition to multimedia communications, I'm engaged in work on Web 2.0 interfaces, Javascript, SIP, XMPP, etc. If there are two devices need to interact, I seem to be doing something to make that happen. Prior to getting into the telecom business, I wrote software for the healthcare industry, and developed and published my own software.
