Currently I am completing two projects related to the long term outcome of individuals with Traumatic Brain Injury. One project deals with dysexecutive syndrome and EEG changes (FIRDA) over time with and without the use of mood stabiliziung anticonvulsant therapy (vs use of atypical neuroleptics). The second project looks at recovery of impaired working memory in individuals with prefrontal lesions ( bilateral vs unilateral ). A third long running project looks at impairment of semantic vs phonemic word retrival using standardized verbal fluency testing in individuals who take topirimate for epilepsy, migraine or benign idiopathic intracraniel hypertension. Following a publication in Lancet in 1997 we recieved a lot of attention (and referrals) for our work with atypical dementias. As a result of the increased demand in services for the evaluation of patients we established guidlines, protocols and interagency relationships that have made it easier to manage individuals with both adult and pediatric neurobehavioral syndromes. We now have dedicated monthly clinics for advanced treatment of Huntington's disease, Westphall Varient Huntington's disease, Asperger Syndrome, Diffuse Lewey Body Disease, Binswangers Dementia, Fronto-temporal Dementia, TBI and the more common pediatric and adult neurobehavioral conditions (Alzheimer's disease and ADHD). We maintain weekly Epilepsy Clinics to care for adults and children with cognitive and behavioral issues related to Epilepsy.
