Isabel Lara is Director of Media Relations at NPR. She worked at the Smithsonian Institution from to , first at the Smithsonian Latino Center and then at the National Air and Space Museum. She was responsible for designing and implementing the media outreach strategy for space shuttle Discoverys arrival to the Museum that garnered front page stories on April , . The Welcome Discovery Communications campaign won the PRSA Silver Anvil Award of Excellence and the Smithsonian Secretary's Awards for Excellence, Collaborative Spirit Award. Isabel holds a bachelors degree in Literature from Universidad Catlica Andrs Bello in Venezuela and received a master's degree in Media Studies from The New School in New York. In the Fall of she completed the Columbia School of Journalism Continuing Education department's Smarter Social Media course and has returned for its Social Media Weekend as a speaker in the panel Social Media for Social Good in January and as social media doctor in February .
