Joseph S. Miller has been Deputy Director and Senior Policy Counsel of the Media and Technology Institute (MTI) at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies since , serving as Interim Director of MTI in the spring and summer of . His policy portfolio includes spectrum, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, Internet, broadband, diversity and inclusion, and media ownership policy. Mr. Miller began his career in New York City radio in advertising sales at Clear Channels WKTU-FM, The New York Times WQXR-FM, and CBS Television and in programming and music research at ABCDisneys WPLJ-FM and Emmis Broadcastings Hot . He is a proud graduate of the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh, at which he earned a B.S. in Mass Communication, with Concentration in Music and a Minor in Business Administration. He earned his Juris Doctor from New York Law School, where he served as an editor of its Media Law Policy Journal. He served as a Law Student Associate at Sun Microsystems. Upon graduating from New York Law, he was the Assistant Director of Pace Universitys business incubator program for early-stage companies in Lower Manhattan and Yonkers, NY. Immediately prior to joining the Joint Center, Joseph was a Fellow with the Minority Media and Telecommunications Council, where he worked on advertising non-discrimination, media ownership, and equal opportunity issues. He is a member of the Federal Communications Bar Association, where he currently serves as Co-Chair of the Diversity Committee. A native of Manhattan, New York, he attended the acclaimed Fiorello H. LaGuardia ("Fame") High School of Music and Art and the Performing Arts under the direction of Justin DiCioccio, who created the first fully accredited high school jazz program in the United States at the school in .
