Currently working in my 20th year in the field of public education. After winning the state-wide election for State School Superintendent in November 2010, I took office in January 2011 to begin my four-year term. Prior to this time, I taught high school English and journalism for 5 years before entering administration where I have served as a high school assistant principal, a high school principal, a district director of career & technical education, the state director of career, technical, and agriculture education with the Georgia Department of Education, and the director of secondary curriculum & instruction with the Bartow County School System. I earned my B.A. degree from Berry College in Rome, Georgia where I still currently reside; my M.Ed and Ed.S degrees from the University of West Goergia and my Ed.D in educational leadership from the University of Georgia.
