John M. Egan

John M. Egan, a director since November 2003, is the retired founder and chairman and chief executive officer of ARRIS Group (Nasdaq: ARRS). ARRIS is a global communications technology company specializing in the design and engineering of broadband local access networks and a leading developer and supplier of optical transmission, cable telephony and Internet access for cable systems operators. Mr. Egan joined ARRIS in 1973 and was Chairman of its Board of Directors from 1997 to May 2002. Mr. Egan was President of ARRIS from 1980 to 1997 and Chief Executive Officer of ARRIS and its predecessors from 1980 through 1999. On January 1, 2000, Mr. Egan stepped down from his role as Chief Executive Officer of ARRIS. He remained a full-time employee until his retirement in May 2002. Mr. Egan has served on the Board of Directors of the National Cable Television Association, or NCTA, for 20 years, and has been actively involved in the Walter Kaitz Foundation, an association seeking to help the cable industry diversify its management workforce to include minorities, as well as the Society of Cable Television Engineers and Cable Labs, Inc. Mr. Egan currently serves on the advisory board of KB Partners, a Chicago based venture capital firm and on several boards in the technology start-up sector.
