Kathryn enjoys standing up and presenting, and her gregarious nature has lead to several teaching engagements. She has toured the country to present best practices for online buying & planing and an extensive introduction to online media class. She occasionally pairs up with David Stanger during some of his teaching engagements at Universities and Colleges across Canada. In 2008, Kathryn Slater headed up the interactive division at DSA Media. Her keen interest in new and emerging media trends and technology lead her to become a rich resource with knowledge and energy when it came to research, planning and buying. She was often asked to offer insight and planning resources for online plans throughout the agency and had the opportunity to work with many different clients, advertisers and publishers over the past decade. She worked at DSA Media for the 4 and a 1/2 years as a traditional buyer/planner prior to taking on the role of interactive/new media specialist in 2007. More than anything, Kathryn was dedicated to transparency and honesty in advertising. She believed that the best campaigns were the ones where clients, publishers and agencies worked together for the best customer experience rather than the best "campaign" experience. Sometimes an uphill climb due to the industry's resistance to the ever changing role of online, Kathryn championed the philosophy that change only comes when you lead by example. As of December 2010, Kathryn left the advertising world to pursue studies at Emily Carr. As of August 2011, she is the proud owner of a Fine Arts certificate and has recently been accepted to the advanced certificate program in Illustration. Kathryn does freelance consulting in new media and headed to Regina this past October as a speaker for the JOLT conference hosted by Brown Communication Group. Kathryn enjoys drawing & painting and hopes to publish a children's book sometime in the future. You can also see her occasional ukulele stylings on YouTube.
