I began my career in medicine, and was a licensed Medical Technologist. I set up and ran one of the first private virology labs in the country, at the U of Forida Shands Teaching Hospital. The promise of travel and an expense account lured me into medical sales, which I loved. My interest in seeing better products developed for our clients led me into product marketing and ultimately new product development. I went to Europe to work on new product projects and learned an enormous amount about multi-cultural teamworking, project planning and management and how to get things done when the whole world is trying to thwart you The lessons in how other countries practice medicine and use medical products were invaluable and fascinating. I quit the corporation as soon as I was eligible to stay in England without a work permit and set up my own consulting practice. I worked with British Petroleum, Ford Motor Company, ICI, Wellcome Foundation, VNU Business Publishing among other large organizations. Upon deciding to return to the USA, I needed a re-entry plan Having worked overseas for years, my network and knowledge of the US market was irretrievable. My skills however, did translate.
