Matthew A. Goldstein concentrates his practice in the areas of international distribution and broker agreements, embargoes, economic sanctions, and export controls compliance for military, commercial, and dual use items and technologies. Matthew has represented manufacturers in the export of defense articles, electronics, medicines, and other products to Africa, Australia, Canada, Europe, the United Kingdom, and the Middle East. He has provided consultation to manufacturers in the analysis of commodity jurisdiction and commodity classification requests to the Department of State Directorate of Defense Trade Controls and the Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security. His past representations also include assessments of corporate and individual liability for violations discovered during compliance audits and internal investigations. Matthew has instructed college courses as an Adjunct Faculty member and his public speaking engagements include those before the Arizona Nanotechnology Symposium, the U.S. Commercial Service, the Arizona Department of Commerce, the Thunderbird School of Global Management, and the Arizona State Bar. Matthew supports international human rights causes. He served as Chairman of the American Bar Association Section of Litigation International Human Rights Award Subcommittee and his research on honor killings is cited by Human Rights Watch and in various academic publications. Matthew received his Juris Doctor degree from Arizona State University College of Law magna cum laude and Order of the Coif, his Master of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Albany, Nelson Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, and his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arizona.
