Michael earned a Master of Arts Degree in Media Studies from The New School in 2008, where he studied the critical role media plays in the democratic process, the manipulation of media by outside forces and the transformational power of emergent media to help people connect to their communities, improve lives and spur social change. He helped launch the Religion, Faith & Values program at the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, as the first Religion, Faith & Values fellow and the Digital Media Strategy department at Pro-Media Communications. Prior to his media advocacy work, Michael was an editor for a daily newspaper in southwest Iowa, the Creston News Advertiser. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.
