After years with Honeywell in increasing roles of responsibility, by my own choice in April I retired early and embarked on a new career. I now do pro-bono information technology work for non-profits whose goals correspond with my own beliefs. The rest of my time is spent working as a wildlife landscape photographer in northern Minnesota northwestern Wisconsin. Both the Weather Channel and Fox News have featured photos I took of the Lake Superior Apostle Islands National Seashore Ice Caves. My Honeywell career followed the rise of the micro-computer and the world wide web. Back in the 's I started Honeywell's computer training program. In the 's I built some of Honeywell's first internal and external web services, and now in the new century after having built Honeywell's eLearning and virtual library portal, I am focusing upon knowledge collaboration and social sharing tools for Honeywell. In summation, I am trying to build the "virtual water cooler" A few recent internal projects include the creation of a collaboration portal, a micro-blogging network (Yammer), wikis, a social search tagging engine, and a video portal (an internal YouTube). External projects include SEO, web analytics (Google Analytics Premium), and Honeywell's Video Channels (YouTube and Honeywell.Com). On most of these same systems or services I also have extensive content development and product admin knowledge. Specialties I am an expert and Greenbelt certified in knowledge management. As opposed to using high priced tools, my approach is to find user friendly, practical low cost resources that may be quickly adopted by the Honeywell user community.
