I'm a former teacher, administrator, and public education bureaucrat. After 20 years, I left public education because I could not honestly support the aims of "school reform." It is a fact that divergent views are no longer permitted in the field of public education. In my view, the real aim of school "reform" is the elimination of comprehensive public education. The prize is a reallocation of money currently spent on teachers ($100s of Billions every year) to for profit "services" and bureaucratic red tape. "Common Core" standards, excessive testing, the elimination of arts and history programs, charter schools, school "choice" initiatives, and national online education schemes all exist to further the goals of corporations and their representatives in government. "School reform" is a symbiotic relationship of for-profit and bureaucratic interests. Sadly, public education no longer exists to empower individuals (if it ever did), it exists to control and sort. The last thing Wall Street or Washington wants is an educated, enlightened populace eager to question the assumptions provided to them by their masters.
