Sean C. Orr

Male, 50 years old

As a Vascular and Critical Care Neurologist, I care for the patients with the most severe form of neurological illness. Technological advances are allowing us to rescue patients from catastrophic illness with better outcomes than ever before. But what interests me the most is still on the horizon. In the near future, Neuroregenerative techniques will restore damaged brain, spinal cord and nerve tissue, restoring health to patients affected by neurological illness. I foresee a day when Neurocritical Care and Neuroendovascular techniques are complemented by the use of progenitor cell implantation, nanotechnology, and wetware. Modification of the inflammatory system will become safer and more practical, allowing the introduction of neurobionics at the microscopic level. This field of endeavor, Regenerative Neurology, will have an impact akin to that felt by the introduction of antibiotics, innoculation and the microprocessor. My professional goal is to be one of the pioneers in this industry. By leveraging my clinical experience in the neurosciences, I anticipate that enterprise will flow naturally and spurn a new industry unto itself, namely Neuroregeneration.
