Stephanie Simon uses her own life to draw from for musical inspiration. You wouldn't know it listening to this mostly upbeat rock album, but Simon's third CD, "Widow," featured on WB's Smallville, was written and recorded the year after her husband passed away. Simon's newest CD, "Butterfly," is based on her personal experience with emotional abuse. It is a powerful tribute to women suffering from domestic violence and sends the message that we can spread our wings and come out of any tragedy, as stronger, better, and more positive people. Stephanie Simon and her partner Jeffrey Phillip Block are the recipients of the 2011 Accolade Award of Merit and Award of Excellence for Simon's music video "Deep In My Mind". The project was directed by Andre Holzendorf and videotaped by Terry Davis in Los Angeles during a three-day period. Simon’s dog Benji was trained to fetch and hide condoms in the video, which Simon states, “was very entertaining for the crew and actors involved.†"It is important to me to spread the message about safe sex and being a recording artist gives me a unique medium to do so in a fun and creative way. I hope viewers will walk away with the song stuck in their heads reminding them of their responsibility to keep sex safe,†says Simon. Stephanie Simon's music has been called "organic," "honest," "deeply moving," and even "provocative." She believes her art is a way to express her emotions and she uses writing and recording as her own personal therapy.
