One of the many photocopied cut-and-paste fanzines that emerged during the home video explosion of the s, TEMPLE OF SCHLOCK was founded in Syracuse, NY in July by year-old Paul DeCirce and year-old Chris Poggiali. Heavily influenced by Steve Puchalskis SLIMETIME 'zine, which was published across town and distributed in the Syracuse University area, TEMPLE OF SCHLOCK reviewed new and old horror, action and exploitation movies that were being released to theaters and videocassette. During the four years of the Temples existence, Paul and Chris -- with tremendous help from their dedicated staff of writers and artists -- produced issues and accumulated close to subscribers from all over the world. It wasn't a very good-looking zine, and at times it was barely legible, but TEMPLE OF SCHLOCK was a product of its time a time when you had to use a typewriter, scissors, scotch tape, glue stick and the United States Postal Service to put together the type of thing youre reading right now -- a time before Internet blogs and message boards made it possible for anyone with a computer to express themselves with the push of a button. read more ...
