Project The Hattie McDaniel Project will comprise of a -part documentary as well as an informative "behind-the-scenes" adventure. Ms. McDaniel was the first African-American to win the Oscar as well as the first major African-American radio star, but it was not an easy path. She endured many setbacks, pitfalls and restrictions, yet, she still shined and achieved. Sound familiar It reminds me of the countless women who continue to march on... steady, responsible and filled with love. The project's goal is to shed light on a woman who was more than one-dimensional. As a singer, actress, songwriter, dancer, musician, activist and great friend, Hattie was more than she was given credit for, much more. Project The Emmanuel Abdul-Rahim Project will include a documentary, an international jazz tour, books, and one of the most revealing interview series on the history of truth, music, and life. Emmanuel Abdul-Rahim, ASCAP (formerly recorded under the name Juan Amalbert). One of the world's most brilliant musical figures, Mr. Abdul-Rahim was the percussionist for Sir Duke Ellington for years. He also performed with John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakely, Sarah Vaughan, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Moms Mabley and countless others. Look out for a new "collector's" LP (yes, vinyl) to be completed before the end of featuring Abdul-Rahim's extremely talented friends, Jesper Johansen (double bass) Bert Boeren (trombone). In addition, there are plans for an early return to the studio for yet another recording session of new material. Additional projects Mayme Clayton, indie features and other experimental endeavors.
