I'm intrigued by the strategic interplay between the economy, people technology. Things change. Stuff improves. Ideas become real. So as frustrated customers seek out alternatives, the 'business-as-usual' tribe are panicking by trying to decode 'the facts' (even though there are no facts - only interpretation). With everyone doing the same thing, nobody stands out. So when customers see their needs, interests expectations being ignored, they jump ship. And some leaders just aren't getting it. Stephen Hawking once said the enemy of knowledge is not ignorance its the illusion (of knowledge). And without an inkling of where the future is moving, many see only what they want to see keep doing the same stuff. Like it or not, but a super-efficient digital network is exposing your customers to substitutes.Very soon everything will be networked. Disruption is a moving target. And if you think you know your market, you're wrong. So in contrast to most consultants 'advice', I think we should spend less time perfecting what we already know spend more energy engaging with uncertainty. And we'll need seamless, multi-channel strategies that flex with technology if we are to continue delivering value. To stand out, we need to be asking not why - but 'why not' We'll need to reduce market friction, to stop fiddling at the core, to move to the edges to stop trying to be perfect. And find new ways to bridge financial, natural social capital. I'll even go out on a limb suggest its time to rethink the validity of the marketing P's. Why Because quite simply, A's deliver more value (attitude, agility approach). Oh while I'm being provocative, let's not downplay 'Availability' either ...ie. Anytime, Anywhere, Anyhow. None of this is easy because it means going up against the status quo. So don't just hire people who will manage workloads - be bold get people who will give you an edge.
