My name is Dalton Hoffine, I'm a senior Political Science student at Wake Forest University, in North Carolina. I aspire to be a university professor someday, getting my Ph.D. in a comparative or international politics-focused field. At some point, I may want to run for public office. Right now, my main goals are research, and getting into the graduate school of my choice. I grew up in Alabama, where I learned a lot about how I look at the world today. I come from a relatively disadvantaged household, and I've learned by getting into Wake Forest, that with enough effort, some help from friends, and a little luck, one can really change their situation in the best way possible. I'm an idealistic optimist at heart, and I always try and look to find the best in people. I'm slow to anger, but sometimes a little too quick to compromise for the sake of civility. Right now, I'm working on following the path to 'positive peace' as described in Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Letter from a Birmingham Jail," which describes a peace not brought about by lack of tension, but one brought about by lack of injustice. It's not an easy transition for someone as nonconfronational as myself.I love to cook as well, and curry and stews are some of my favorite things to make. Anything sort of warm, hearty, and unique catches my interest food-wise, and I like to work with that. I'm also into anime and manga--Full Moon wo Sagashite and Naruto are two of my long-time favorites in that realm. I like to write short stories in addition to my research, as well--I find it exciting to get whatever crazy thought I have out of my brain and develop it. That's the trick to not letting silly daydreams go to waste.I guess I'll end it on a favorite quote of mine, from Carl Sandburg:"I'm an idealist. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way."
