I was born on September 6th, 1949. My father was Jack Blanc (changed his surname from Blank to Blanc) and Sally Blanc (nee Shulman.) My family is of Ukrainian-Jewish background having escaped the Czar's pogroms of 1905, they immigratef to Canada that year, on my mother's side of the family, and on my father's side of the family immigrated to Canada in 1921 escaping the fighting and persecution of Jews, during the Russian Civil War of 1917-1923 between the Bolheviks (Reds) and the Provisonal Government (White Army) during which Jews were targets no matter if they were on either side of the conflict or neutral.   Â
