I've been a professional IT manager since , and have spent eleven of those years at Canadian medical schools (Dalhousie and the University of Toronto). At UofT I am lucky enough to lead a team of brilliant people in a unit called the "Discovery Commons," one of the leading Faculty-based IT support units. Since I've been the continuing co-chair of the AFMC IT Group, which brings together IT pros from all Canadian medical schools. I am also secretary to the AFMC Informatics Resource Group, which focuses on IT in teaching and learning. Before I managed a far-flung network and IT operation for the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada in Vancouver, as well as doing IT for the GLOBE and GLOBE environmental conferences and trade shows. Before I worked in desktop support, magazine publishing, event management, house painting, and even a short but exciting stint in independent film production. It's no surprise that it took me years to finish my -year English degree I'm interested in opportunities to use IT for good rather than for evil, in starting new initiatives or turning around teams or units or projects that are struggling, and in convincing web application developers that using ColdFusion is in fact not career suicide (okay, I've given that last one up).
