William J. Ryan, age 63, has been a director of the Company since 2001 and a director of Anthem Insurance from 2000 to May 2003. Mr. Ryan served as Chairman of the Board of the former Blue Cross Blue Shield of Maine until its acquisition by us in 2000. He has served as Chairman of TD Banknorth Inc. since 1990 and served as President of TD Banknorth Inc. from 1990 to March 2007. Mr. Ryan is a director of UnumProvident Corporation (life, long-term care and supplemental insurance company). He also serves as a trustee of Colby College and the Libra Foundation.
