Dr. Stead has served as associate vice chancellor for health affairs and chief information officer of Vanderbilt University Medical Center since 1991. Dr. Stead is also a director of NetSilica, an healthcare information technology company. He is a founding fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics and the American Institute for Engineering in Biology and Medicine and a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences and Computer Science and Telecommunication Board of the National Research Council. He served as a presidential appointee to the Systemic Interoperability Commission. He is past Chairman, Board of Regents, National Library of Medicine, of the American Association for Medical Systems and Informatics, and of the American College of Medical Informatics.
