Focus on Nature is a Guelph-based, non-profit photography program created in 2008 as a means for inspiring young people to get outside and explore and appreciate the natural world. Offered as an interdisciplinary tool for teachers and outdoor educators, the program brings in local photographers and volunteers to provide hands-on photography workshops, field trips, and editing and feedback discussions. Nature activities are integrated throughout the program to enhance students’ sensory awareness, nurture their creativity, and cultivate a love and respect for the natural world. Currently funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Ontario Arts Council, the program is evolving in new directions and forming partnerships with organizations and businesses who share our vision of connecting young people with nature through the arts.
