I am on track to defend my Ph.D. in English literature in February . I am currently on the job market, looking for either . a tenure-track position in th century British literature and culture . a research position in digital humanities, alt-ac or a non-profit My research interests are interdisciplinary the application of affect theory to Victorian psychological and sociological discourse, and especially the cultural discourse of shame in the long th century. Specialties th and th century British novel, the history and theory of the novel, affect theory, nineteenth century psychology and sociology, Charles Dickens, George Eliot. My dissertation, "'Least Faulty Where Others Most Blame' Shame in the Novels of George Eliot," explores how cultural narratives of shame structure both the form and content of Eliot's novels. Eliot deploys this structure to critique shame narratives in the culture, while her characters struggle to develop a model of ethics derived not from shame but from freedom to choose their own values and fellowship. My interests in digital humanities include creating digital projects in th century literature and culture, tools for teaching and research, network analysis, and semantic web technology. My current digital project (in development), the George Eliot Workspace, is a curated collection of texts that George Eliot read, connected by semantic links assessing degrees of influence. I have a wide variety of research experience, in the humanities and the social sciences. I earned an undergraduate degree in experimental psychology with a minor in mathcomputer science, and I have years of work experience as a research specialistdatabase manager in grant-funded research projects. I also have experience as a computer programmer, and in statistical analysis of research data.
