Palm Desert, CA

Also known as: thejudyhorn

I am currently a terrific realtor working in the Coachella Valley of California. The Coachella Valley is home to cities that most people recognize as vacation destinations; Palm Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta, Indian Wells, Indio, and Cathedral City. I was not born in this Southern California paradise. I am a transplant. The road to California was long with many stops along the way. I was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, a city in Western Massachusetts. No, I do not have nor did I ever have an accent! You are thinking about the Boston area. I lived in Holyoke until a year after graduation from the University of Massachusetts. After I married my husband, Nelson, whoI knew since high school, we moved to Agawam, Massachusetts .Then the trek began; Brunswick, Ohio, Naperville, Illinois, Laguna Niguel, California, Birmingham, Alabama, Great Falls, Virginia, and finally Palm Desert, CA. Oh, did I mention Eastham, Massachusetts?I became the mother of two children, the Kings Ransom; a first born son followed by a precious daughter. My son is an attorney and a father. My daughter and former partner is deceased (2009). Her death has taught me what unabashed grief is. I have lost parents and other family members. Nothing compares with the loss of my daughter, my child. It is a pain that is always with you. I was told by another mom who also lost an adult child is that the best you can hope for is learn to hide it. I continue to work towards that.. The creation of a memorial website for Meredith helped me do something creative to honor her memory, www.MeredithHorn.comMy undergraduate and graduate degrees are in elementary education and educational administration. In the 80s I felt that computers were going to work their way into the hands of the public and went back to school to get a degree in computer science. My original intent was to work for the Bell Labs. We moved and that did not happen. Most of my working years were in the field of education, literally grades 2,3,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12, adult/college education. My knowledge of computers and education made me a valuable asset to schools and suddenly I found myself out of the classroom and into non-site based administration. From there I joined the elite Virginia Department of Education, Governors Best Practice Center. It was an exciting period of state standards and No Child Left Behind. Many exciting doors were open to me and the ability to help shape educational policies were presented. I like to think that I left my mark on education in a positive vein. During these years I was very active in the Association for Curriculum Supervision and Development (ASCD). I presented at their national and local conferences. I was also a grant recipient. At the time the grant was received web usage was virtually unknown in most classrooms across the country. My grant enabled me to establish a web community for middle school educators; a good description would be it served as a consolidator and a clearing house, among other things, for resources to assist in teaching and learning. The site is www.middleschool.net. It was an award winner and for years and years was number one or two on the ten top search engines. It was a virginal site; never any advertising or hawking of wares. I nurtured the site for more than ten years. In late 2008 my daughter suggested I sell it and went about looking for a buyer. This was placed on hold when she became ill. A month after she died, out of the blue, I was contacted by its current owner and a sale was consummated. I like to think that this was my daughter wrapping up loose ends.My current business is real estate. I have my husband as my partner. I find it fascinating and every day is a thrill. I am able to take all of that technology proficiency and apply it in creative ways to help my clients buy and sell their homes at the best possible price. I am an e-Pro, e-Agent, Short Sale Certified, and work with the bank on REO (foreclosed) property. I go to every seminar and event that comes along. I guess that old teacher is still in me as I strive for the most knowledge possible in my real estate practice. However, I never lose track that Real Estate is a people business.Oh yes, I do have other interests than working. I am collecting family genealogy information, histories, pictures, etc. I love to read and travel. I spend time with my grandchild and friends. I continue to work on something called a memorial website to preserve my daughters memory and provide a spot for family and friends to remember. I am toying with the idea of setting up a foundation to promote the love of reading in honor of my daughter, a prolific reader. What has initially crossed my mind is involving well-known authors, combining traditional print and electronic readers, webinars and much more. To be done correctly would take a tremendous amount of work. I have not fully committed to this idea at this point.,This is sort of a catch all channel for me. You will find many real estate related videos meshed in with other areas of interest to me.
