I was raised on the beach in Santa Barbara playing in the sand and surfing at my parents surf camp. My dad, Davey Smith, was a professional surfer in his day and started the second ever surf camp in California. I think that me and my brother Brandon learned how to surf before we could walk. It was a great way to spend our summers and weekends. Surf spots like The Pit, Emma Wood, Backside Rincon, Mondos, El Cap, Jalama and Refugio were our playgrounds. After surfing all day, I would head over to Rudenko School of Dance and learn tap, ballet and jazz with the fabulous Barbara Rudenko. I danced from age 4 to about 15, performing in shows at the Lobero Theater in Santa Barbara, lots of County fairs and carnivals and even did a few dance competitions in Los Angeles and Lake Tahoe with my best friend DeeDee. My dad's guitar and other instruments were always in our living room, and every night after my mom's homemade dinner he would pick his guitar up and play. When I was about 16 I picked up his other guitar and thanks to him I haven't put it down. The chords that I learned needed words and thus my songwriting career began. I like to write songs that tell a story and that are personal to my life. Though I'm still very young, I feel like I have a lot of funny (and sad) stories to tell. I have a massive family with every personality dynamic. My Grandma Colette is from Paris France, and my grandpa Archie Piacentini's family is from Northern Italy (my mom's side). They boarded the Queen Mary in Europe with their TR4 and a few bags and settled in the USA, arriving in New York then driving across the USA and ending up in Santa Barbara, California in 1955 because, well, why not? My dad's side of the family blazed trails across America and settled in California in 1920. I am blessed with an abundant amount of love from my parents, my aunts, uncles and cousins. I am an American girl with tidbits of everyone in the world mixed in, and I live on the beach in California. Go figure!
