James D. Greenhalgh, Special Counsel to Windels Marx Lane & Mittendorf, LLP, is a bankruptcy and commercial litigation attorney who has practiced in the banking and insurance industries, both in law firms and in-house. He joined the Firm in December of 2007 and is a member of two of the Firm’s Practice Groups: Bankruptcy & Creditors’ Rights and Litigation & Alternative Dispute Resolution. Following eight years of law firm practice, Mr. Greenhalgh joined Chemical Bank and developed the Bank’s in-house plaintiff litigation practice which focused on workout, bankruptcy, lender liability and creditors’ rights. As Assistant General Counsel at JPMorgan Chase and predecessors for 25 years, Mr. Greenhalgh managed in-house litigation staff, supervised nation-wide outside counsel and counseled in-house clients, all while actively litigating hundreds of bankruptcy cases and commercial actions. He was the Bank’s lead counsel for the Drexel Burnham Lambert bankruptcy case, without any loss on the Bank’s billion-dollar exposure and without use of outside counsel. Upon returning to law firm practice, Mr. Greenhalgh became special counsel to a Chapter 7 trustee seeking recovery of $100 million in litigation against a well-known national department store chain. Mr. Greenhalgh is admitted to practice in the state of New York, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Eastern and Northern Districts of New York, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the U.S. Court of Claims and the Supreme Court of the United States. He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the New York State Bar Association, and its Trial Lawyers and Commercial & Federal Litigation Sections. In the latter section, he is an active member of the Bankruptcy Litigation Committee and serves as chair of the task force evaluating pending legislation that proposes to revise New York Debtor & Creditor Law to replace current provisions of the Uniform Fraudulent Conveyance Act.
