He is the senior founder and served as president of Powers, Pyles, Sutter & Verville P.C., a Washington, D.C. law firm specializing in healthcare and hospital law, from 1983 to 2001. Mr. Powers was the first chief counsel of the federal Health Care Financing Administration (now Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) and has served as a director and the president of the American Health Lawyers Association. He serves as a director and chairman of the compliance committee of HMS Holdings, Inc. and as a director of a number of private companies in the healthcare industry.
