I'm the product of two very creative, former hippie parents who left Ohio in a VW bus in to settle in downeast Maine. A divorce, a revelation, many moves, homelessness and many homes and schools followed. Eventually, I ended up at UMaine in Orono. Alex is the product of a long line of self-reliant Mainers. His parents, of an earlier generation than my own, raised him on the Bradstreet homestead on the mid-coast. Academically accelerated, he attended a private school, was awarded the Eagle Scout honor and he hiked much of Maine's wilderness. He also landed at UMaine, where we met our second year of college.Alex and I have been together since , marrying June , . Two amazing kids, a daughter, and a son, , who have been unschooled since birth. We live near seven miles of Maine beach, have a year old home that we have refurbished and a compact organic garden containing over twenty-five trees on just . of an acre. We also have a -acre farm on a pond in central Maine, that has been in Alex's family since the late th century.
