Inspired by my service as an enlisted Marine Corps combat veteran, I am a VeteransMilitary Reintegration Specialist with an emphasis in policy research, advocacy, program development and direct service. Currently, I am conducting policy research on veteran incarceration to include treatment and preventive measures as it pertains to mental health conditions resulting from military andor combat service. My professional goals are to obtain licensure as a Clinical Social Worker with a specialization in either research, program development, direct practice or a combination thereof that entails working with the veteran and military-affiliated population whether in the public, private or non-profit sector(s). As for the specific populations I would like to work with are as followshomeless veterans, incarcerated veterans, combat veterans, and exiting military service members or recently discharged veterans to include their families transitioning from military service to civilian life. My previous work has focused on directly serving veteran and military affiliated-students who are transitioning from the military to higher education. As part of this work I have assisted in developing outreach and transitional support programs that aide said population in seamlessly assimilating into campus life at institutions of higher education. Specifically, such efforts have resulted in the successful implementation of veteran student support services to include dedicated space on campus, re-establishing a campus steering committee on veterans and military-affiliated students, increased program staffing, increased student internship and campus employment opportunities, priority registration for courses, veteranmilitary specific employment and career center support, housing guarantee for veterans, service members and their families, veteran scholarship fund, campus faculty training on military and veteran culture, founding of a Veterans Professional Fraternity.
