My life at this point can be summarized in two words: homeschooling and training. I'm up at 4:30 to run, bike or swim most days, teach our three children, drive them to their swim practices and then procure just enough food to keep us all alive and healthy (<- and this is a BIG job)! In my pre-homeschooling years, I was trained as an organic chemist (M.S. Chemistry from Univ. of Utah, B.S. Chemistry from California State Univ., San Bernardino). I've taught college chemistry and spent a few years in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries including working at 3M and Boston Scientific.As for running and triathlons, I enjoy focusing on a specific goal - the more challenging, the better. I don't look to improve in small increments or race often. I choose one or two key races each year, usually an event/distance I haven't tried (such as my first half Ironman in 2011) or going for a significant PR. Endurance races are the perfect challenge for me, but I'll only invest the time and effort in races that are special to me. My goal for 2012 is to *properly* train for another half Ironman and race to my potential.
