Portfolio link httpserinpalmer.contently.com Laughter and derision were the common responses when I told people that I would become a writer. Looking at my byline on The Huffington Post, Chicago Tribune, Brazen Careerist, U.S. News University Directory and all the others, I enjoy a chuckle or two in honor of everyone who told me that writing wasn't a valid career choice. My professional career began with hunting down every freelance assignment I could get my hands on after graduation. Now, I continue to use that same tenacity to research stories, engage readers and create content that exceeds my clients expectations. To round out my skills, I began working at Bisk Education as an SEO link builder in the marketing department. Learning from excellent colleagues, my skills grew to include search engine optimization techniques like keyword research, blogger outreach and improving organic search placement. During my time as a link builder, I was able to incorporate writing into my position. As I gained link building success, I also grew my portfolio through guest blogging for websites like About.com, Monster.com and Simply Hired. Soon I was placed in a leadership role, training and mentoring new link builders. When I was promoted to digital content specialist, my focus shifted to creating, editing and promoting content. Not just any content. I write content that people want to share, blog posts that are easy to relate to and news articles that educate and enlighten. Writing never has been just a job to me. It never will be.
