I got into animation when I realized that I wanted to create movies... but that actors are generally intolerant of having pianos dropped on them. As a Production Monkey for my company, Hand Turkey Studios, I've produced animations and visual effects for television, film, and video games. With a couple rare exceptions, I exclusively use open source tools such as Blender, GIMP, and Inkscape. I'm most active in the Blender community and wrote "Blender For Dummies" (now in its second edition) as well as co-authored "GIMP BIble". I've given numerous international workshops and demonstrations on Blender. In January of , I worked with the Blender Foundation to assemble the Blender Certification Review Board and lead the launch of the Blender Foundation Certified Trainer (BFCT) program. I enjoy doing crazy things like trying to produce a to -minute animated short in a mere hours. I can often be found in cafs and diners drawing, espousing the virtues of open source software, or catching confused looks from strangers as I contort my body to better visualize a scene I'm animating.
