James Martin, once a guide in the North Cascades and Canadian Rockies, is a writer and photographer based in Seattle and the founder of digitalmediumformat.com. In addition to creating a series of award-winning science books for children, James wrote the first comprehensive study of chameleons in 1992, Chameleons: Masters of Disguise with Art Wolfe. Other books include North Cascades Crest, Mount Rainier, and Sierra for Sasquatch and Extreme Alpinism with Mark Twight. His most recent books are Digital Photography Outdoors and Planet Ice, a photographic survey of ice around the world. He has been published in Smithsonian, Sports Illustrated, Climbing, Outside, Outdoor Photographer and a host of other periodicals. He is represented by Getty Images.
