The meetings and events industry is changing. Since joining the field in , I have seen the mass adoption of new technologies to increase attendee participation, interaction and understanding. Travel restrictions and virtual events have massively impacted time and money investments attendees and show organizers alike are allocating to conferences and tradeshows. Two clear technologies are shaping the future of events mobile and social. I am excited to see that event organizers are consciously planning their meetings to include mobile applications and social network integration. The change is more than providing an electronic show-guide or a twitter hashtag. Attendees are now selecting the sessions they want to attend, rating speakers, finding exhibitors, downloading product brochures and keynote presentations, all from the device in their hands. Inviting friends to register for events, updating their connections with session information, sharing new product releases are just some of the benefits social technologies have added to conferences. When Im not attending conferences or working with event planners, I spend my time swimming in Lake Washington, cycling on the Burke Gilman trail, or running in Kirkland while getting ready for my next triathlon. When I need a break from endurance sports, I enjoy a day on the golf course or a weekend sailing through the San Juan Islands.
