I have more than two decades experience helping teams apply Web Science to solve the unique social, legal, and technical problems inherent in creating and disseminating information in networked ecosystems. Currently I am the Deputy Director of the Web Science Research Center at the Tetherless World Constellation, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, managing the delivery of large scale open government data and open science data projects using Linked Data and Semantic Web best practices. Previously, I was a principal scientist at HP Labs focusing on information security, content identification and management, and social network-driven collaboration Co-founder of NetRights, LLC and architect of LicensIt(tm)@ttribute(tm), the first digital rights management (DRM) technologies to facilitate interaction between content creators and users through the dynamic exchange and networked persistence of metadata Co-founder of Yankee Rights Management and architect of Copyright Direct(tm), the first real-time, Internet-based service to fully automate the complex copyright permissions process for a variety of media types. I'm a hands-on, energetic individual contributor, systems architect, project leader, and entrepreneur, with more than two decades experience creating novel Internet technologies and generating real business value. Awarded multiple US patents for rights management and information security technologies numerous related patents are pending. Active participant in international metadata and rights management standardization efforts including the WC Government Linked Data WG, OAI ORE advisory committee, the DSpace Architectural Review committee, the Handle System Technical Review committee and the Global Handle System Advisory Committee. Co-editor, WC DCAT Served on the Industry Working Group for Digital Copyright Submissions for the U.S. Copyright Office, the OASIS Rights Language TC, and the WC Digital Rights Management Program Committee.
