Ricks journey in IT started in the mid-'s where he worked for a number of ISPs and .COM companies supporting Unix based systems that were critical to the companies internet and web-hosting and web-delivery services. Notably in Rick was introduced to VMware as a means to run multiple Linux based desktops on a single machine. In , Rick took his knowledge and experience to The City of San Diego where over his year tenure he formed and lead a Technical Architecture team, brought VMware Virtualization to life and led the march for a next generation data center and end-user computing. In Rick took his experience to the Internet by starting his blog site, VMwareTips.com. Shortly after starting his blog site he started contributing to the San Diego area VMware Users Group (VMUG) where he helped lead the group bringing virtualization knowledge to the community. Also during this time-frame he started contributing as a technical editor for a number of published books on VMware, including Scott Lowes Mastering VMware vSphere . In Rick was honored by becoming one of the first VMware Certified Design Expert, the highest level and most scrutinized VMware certification available. For over years Rick has been designing and deploying Next Generation IT Solutions, including Cloud, Software-Defined infrastructures and massive scaling VDI environments, as well as application re-platforming solutions for SAP, Oracle and Java based workloads.
