It's an exciting time to be a journalist, and I'm fortunate to be leading social media efforts in Iowa's largest newsroom. I joined The Des Moines Register shortly after graduation from Iowa State University in as part of Gannett's Talent Development Program. Innovative thinking is crucial in today's media environment. Media organizations need to jump from adapting to cultural shifts to being leaders. Our websites, apps and social media efforts shouldn't be "good enough," they should be showing people ways to consume news they didn't even know were possible. I look forward to working with energetic staffs and being part of the change.
